ProudSound

Why ProudSound?

ProudSound recognizes that while it’s important to support LGBTQ+ musicians, each artist must be celebrated for their talent, not just for their identity.

Boston’s music scene has always been an incubator for up-and-coming artists and the city itself is a hub of LGBTQ+ history, culture, and activism; by celebrating Boston’s queer music scene, these artists can serve as positive role models for others in the community who aspire to pursue careers in music. Seeing successful individuals who share their identity can inspire others to pursue their passions without fear of discrimination.

Increasing visibility and representation for LGBTQ+ musicians is key to making Boston a safe space for a diverse and vibrant music community. There is already a strong community of queer musicians in Boston, but it must be supported and celebrated by the wider Boston community. At ProudSound, we hope to serve as a jumping-off point for Boston residents to learn more about the city’s queer artists and how to support them.

ProudSound Boston was founded by Sofia Grabiel Butler in 2024.
